When we feel any negative emotions; sad, anxious, upset, angry, we tend to keep these feelings bottled up inside us. We push these feelings downs, like giant bouncy balls and when we can longer keep pushing them down, they bounce up and our feelings explode everywhere.
This explosion causes us to feel all these negative emotions in one giant hit. We have no idea what to do in the moment or how to move forward. I have designed a FIVE step process to feel my feelings.
Step 1: Acknowledge the feelings that you feel – I feel anxious and sad.
Step 2: Identify WHY – I feel anxious and sad because…….
Step 3: Feel these feelings – Sit with these uncomfortable emotions, be present with them. I like to take some time out, take some deep breaths and be present with my feelings. This will feel uncomfortable at first. Give yourself permission to cry it out or anything you need to do for yourself.
Step 4: Let them go – When the time feels right to you let these feelings go. I like to write it out and close the page.
Step 5: Do any activity that brings you JOY – Its time to shift yourself into a state of joy.
